Bdo Do You Need Blue Accessories for Sailboat for Hunting
Introduction
Hunting is an active lifeskill which involves killing certain animals by shooting them with a gun. It is definetly one of the more unique and fun lifeskills but has been somewhat mediocre in terms of money making until the mastery update. It also takes quite a lot of time to level up compared to other lifeskills.
To get started, all you really need is a Hunting Matchlock and a Butcher Knife. I recommend doing the hunting quests first of all and doing the daily hunting quests to give you EXP until you can reach Skilled 10.
How to get a Hunting Matchlock/Sniper Rifle
Hunting Matchlocks can be bought from the Central Market under the Life Skill tab > Matchlock.
You can also craft them yourself at a tool workshop.
Hunting Matchlocks can be enhanced up to +10 using Black Stone (Weapon) to increase the hunting damage. They also lose durability when used and can be repaired at a blacksmith.
Item Name | Buff | How to obtain | |
---|---|---|---|
[Hunting] Beginner Matchlock | Hunting Damage +750 | Tool Workshop (Level 1) Fir Timber x1 Steel x4 Bronze Ingot x1 Black Stone Powder x1 | |
[Hunting] Apprentice Matchlock (Requires Hunting Beginner 10+) | Hunting Damage +900 | Tool Workshop (Level 2) Fir Timber x1 Steel x4 Brass Ingot x1 Black Stone Powder x3 | |
[Hunting] Skilled Matchlock (Requires Hunting Apprentice 10+) | Hunting Damage +1050 | Tool Workshop (Level 2) Fir Timber x1 Steel x5 Silver Ingot x1 Black Stone Powder x5 | |
[Hunting] Professional Matchlock (Requires Hunting Skilled 10+) | Hunting Damage +1200 | Tool Workshop (Level 3) Fir Timber x1 Steel x5 Gold Ingot x1 Black Stone Powder x5 | |
[Hunting] Artisan Matchlock (Requires Hunting Professional 10+) | Hunting Damage +1350 | Tool Workshop (Level 3) Fir Timber x1 Steel x5 Platinum Ingot x1 Black Stone Powder x10 |
You can also use a Sniper Rifle, which allows you to hit certain animals from a longer distance and target their weak spots in a mini-game. Although this can be fun, it is not really that great for efficiency and using regular Matchlocks is much better.
Here is the recipe to craft a Sniper Rifile (using Processing (L) > Manufacture):
- Steel x20
- Log x1
- Pure Iron Crystal x3
- Fine Hard Hide x1
Hunting Gear/Buffs
For hunting you will need to get Critical Hit level 5, Attack Speed level 5 and Gathering level 5. You need attack speed regardless of your class to increase your reload speed when using the matchlock. Critical hit and critical damage buffs also increase your damage with the matchlock so you can kill the animals quicker and with less shots. You will also want Life EXP buffs to increase your hunting EXP. Other Life EXP buffs:
- Pets – 0 to 35%
- [Villa] Turning Gates (90 min) – 10% and Energy Recovery +1
- Costume – 10%
- Verdure Draught – 20%
- Seafood Cron Meal – 10%
- GM Blessing – 10% and Energy Recovery +1
- Guild Life Skill EXP buffs – 10%
Here are two examples of buff combinations you can use:
- Pan-Fried Oyster, Whale Meat Salad, Spirit Perfume Elixir, Elixir of Flowing Wind, Elixir of Flowing Time, Life Alchemy Stone (cheaper but less Hunting EXP)
- Exquisite Cron Meal, Perfume of Swiftness, Elixir of Flowing Wind, Elixir of Strong Shock, Elixir of Flowing Time, Destruction Spirit Stone (more expensive but more Hunting EXP)
You should also be using Mastery gear and a Lucky Butcher Knife (gathering mastery does not effect hunting and magic tools don't work for hunting either)

Hunting Mastery (Trade Items/Furniture)
Higher Hunting mastery gives the following benefits:
- Increases chance of getting more items from butchering animals after hunting them. Blue Whale, Khalk, Humpback Whale and Freshwater Crocodiles are not affected by this however.
- Increases chances of obtaining rare items from butchering animals after hunting them.
- Allows you to use the Sniper Rifle
- Increases your accuracy with a Sniper Rifle
- Allows you to use some Matchlocks based on your Hunting Mastery instead of your Hunting Life Skill
- You can gather rare hunting materials to craft trade items or housing furntiure with buffs.
Check out our Life Skill Mastery guide for a full breakdown of mastery gear, where to obtain it and exactly how many points each item gives.

How to hunt
Once you have your hunting rifle and Buther Knife, go to one of the hunting locations to search for your prey.
Equip your gun by right-clicking it then aim the cross-hair. If the cross-hair is red you will have a chance of hitting and damaging the monster. It can take several minutes to kill them but you can crouch by pressing the SPACE key to increase your range and reload speed. You can run and roll with the gun equpped.
When the animal is killed, stand on top of them. Make sure you have your Butcher Knife equipped then press "R" to collect.
Where to hunt
Solo Hunting
Check out our interactive Map for hunting locations.
There are many different types of animals that you can hunt to raise your hunting experience. Here are just a few examples and their spawn locations:
- Humpback Whales
- These spawn alone and can drop many items such as Hard/Sharp Crystals, Black Stones and Soft Whale Meat.
- To hunt these you will need a boat, hunting musket and a Buther Knife.
- The whales do not attack back and can be killed at any level.
- Giant Boars/ Giant Elk/Giant Brown Bears
- These spawn all over Eastern Balenos Mountains and south of Olvia. Giant Elks and Giant Bears can also be found in Kamaslyvia, north of Tooth Fairy Cabin.
- The Elk are 4/5 shots and Boar are 9/10 with a beginner rifle, making them easy to kill.
- At Apprentice 3, Elks gave 0.5% each and Boars gave 1% each. To hunt these you will only need a hunting rifle and a Butcher Knife, they give Deer Meat, Pork and Boar Meat, along with some Hard/Sharp Crystal drops.
- Giant Wolves/Wolves
- These can be found north of Epheria Port and are great for power leveling your hunting.
- Feather Wolves
- These spawn in packs of 4 and drop many items such as Wold Blood, Wolf Meat, Feather Wolf Hide, Usable Hide, Fire Horn, Sharp/Hard Black Crystals.
- Valencia Lions
- These spawn north west of Arehaza in Valencia. The lions can roam and there are also a lot of goats around this area which can be killed, but you should avoid them because they give low EXP. You will need high DP to kill the lions.
If these areas are empty you can either check another channel or wait for their respawn.
Blue Whales [Group Hunting]
The Blue Whales are Hunting bosses which randomly approximately 3 times a day on each channel. A server message will be shown when the whale spawns.
It requires multiple parties of hunters to kill and only the top 5 damaging parties will recieve loot. The whale does not stop moving and you will need a fishing boat or Epheria boat with one person to drive while the others deal damage. The driver of the boat does not have to worry about hitting the whale and they will recieve loot at the end. I would also recommend using a fishing boat instead of an Epheria boat if possible because it is much easier to stay directly behind the whale and you'll find you are able to hit it much easier.
To begin hunting a Blue Whale you will need the following equipment:
- Hunting Rifle(s) – I recommend bringing a few of them and enhancing them for extra damage so that you can stay longer without having to go to an island to repair.
- Butcher Knife – If possible try to use a Lucky Butcher Knife for the best chance of drops.
Additional equipment you may want to use (optional but recommended):
- Splat Fisher's Clothes Set (Pearl Store Item) or Da-Dum Da-Dum Diving Suit Set (Pearl Store Item)
You can check if a Blue Whale has spawned on your channel by hovering over the Hunting Matchlock icon on the left of your minimap. It will say which have spawned and what sea region the Blue Whale is currently in.
There are three locations where Blue Whales tend to spawn:
- Calpheon Sea – Seas of Banto, Seas of Peyon, Seas of Ahrmo, Seas of Olvia
- Balenos Sea – Seas of Nox, Cron Islands
- Mediah Sea – Seas of Arusha, Seas of Sausan
Below shows the possible routes the Blue Whale can follow. Use your NPC Magnifying glass to find your closest repair.
Possible item drops (after using Butcher's Knife):
- Blue Whale Meat – ingredient used to create Whale Meat Salad
- Blue Whale Tendon – ingredient used to create Whale Tendon Elixir and Whale Tendon Potion
- Blue Whale Oil – ingredient used to create Perfume of Courage and Perfume of Swiftness
- Blue Whale Molar – item used to craft Blue Whale Molar Earring
- Black Stones
- Hard/Sharp Black Crystals
Fugitive Khalk [Group Hunting]
Fugitive Khalk Hunting is similar to Blue Whale Hunting and requires a large group to kill them. The bat flies around quite fast so you will need to use your hunting rifle whilst on your horse.
To begin Fugitive Khalk hunting you will need the following equipment:
- Hunting Rifle(s) – I recommend bringing a few of them and enhancing them for extra damage so that you can stay longer without having to go and repair.
- Butcher Knife – If possible try to use a Lucky Butcher Knife for the best chance of drops.
The following images show the 2 routes the Fugitive Khalk can spawn on.
Possible item drops (after using Butcher's Knife):
- Fugitive Khalk's Horn – ingredient used to create Khalk's Fermented Wine
- Fugitive Khalk's Skin – ingredient used to create Khalk's Elixir
- Fugitive Khalk's Shiny Claw – item used to create Fugitive Khalk's Earring
- Black Stones
- Hard/Sharp Black Crystals

I recommend doing the hunting dailies and killing the Giant Wolves north of Epheria to level your hunting as quickly as possible. Make sure to use Life EXP buffs and other buffs listed in our guide to increase your killing and gathering speed. You can also check out Bearist's Hunting EXP Calculator Feather Wolves are currently very good for profit. I recommend checking Vilu's Featherwolf Profit Calculator to work out how much you can make with Hunting. You can also use this Trade Item Calculator to work out the prices for the Hunting Trade items which you should be transporting from Grana to Valencia/Arehaza for maximum profits. You should use a Lucky Butcher Knife for hunting. FAQ
